Garlic Butter Tofu

Marinated super firm tofu slices are seared until golden and crispy, then simmered in a rich garlic butter sauce with fresh garlic and a touch of parsley. This dish combines a crisp exterior with a savory, buttery glaze, making it a great match for mashed potatoes.

Marinade

  • 4 Tbsp Olive Oil + additional to cook

  • 4 Tbsp Balsamic Vinegar

  • 4 Tbsp Water

  • 1 Tbsp Garlic Powder

  • 1 Tbsp Onion Powder

  • 1 Tbsp Paprika

  • 2 tsp+ Salt

  • Black Pepper

  • 2 Blocks Super Firm Tofu, 6 Scored Filets

Ingredients:

Garlic Butter Sauce

  • 1 Stick of Unsalted Vegan Butter

  • 1 1/3 cup Low Sodium Veggie Broth

  • 10-12 Garlic Cloves, minced

  • 1-2 tsp Dried Parsley

  • 1-2 tsp salt(optional)

  1. Marinate - Whisk the dry ingredients with olive oil, water, and balsamic vinegar. Slice and score the super firm tofu, 3 filets per block, and pour the marinade over. Allow it to marinade for about an hour or overnight.

  2. Cook - In a large pan, drizzle olive oil and cook the tofu in small batches on medium heat. Continuously flip and cook until slightly blackened, about 5-7minutes, then set aside.

  3. Garlic Sauce - In a new pan, melt down butter and then add garlic and dried parsley(add salt here if adding). Cook until the garlic is slightly golden and fragrant. Add the veggie broth and bring it to a boil, then turn it down to a simmer on medium-low heat. Add the tofu back in and continue to cook until most of the broth is cooked down and absorbed. Leave enough for some sauce to be drizzled on mashed potatoes and the tofu at the end.

  4. Serve - Serve this with rosemary mashed potatoes, drizzled with the garlic butter sauce, along with a veggie!

Instructions:

    • Extra Firm Tofu is also great in this recipe. Drain and press before marinating. Freeze and defrost for a more chicken-like texture.

    • Use No Chicken broth as a veggie broth substitute for a stronger flavor.
